Google is now rolling out its new chat feature to Gmail, Google Chat, to app users on Android and iOS. Something that was first noticed by The Verge.

The chat function is still classified as being in the testing stage, which means that it may not be available to all users.

Users can see if they have access to the feature on iOS and Android by opening the Gmail app’s side menu, going down to Settings, and looking for the chat under General.

If the Google Chat option is not visible, the user may need to access the desktop version of Gmail atΒ  https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/chatΒ  to see if Google Chat is turned on there.

In the long run, Google Chat is intended to replace Google Hangouts.
